Master Toby Cooling, founder of the Order of Isshin-Ryu

Dedicated to teaching the art of Isshin-Ryu Karate (One Heart/Mind Way) as handed down by its founder, Tatsuo Shimabuku.

Grandmaster Tatsuo Shimabuku developed Isshin-Ryu Karate from two older styles, Goju Ryu and Shorin Ryu. It was designed specifically for personal combat; however, Americans have modified the fighting practice to enable us to participate in sporting events.

Master Toby Cooling, an American student of Shimabuku, was officially recognized as one of the heads of the Isshin-Ryu family worldwide by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council in 1995.

The Order of Isshin-Ryu was founded in 1971 and is a fraternity of the students of Master Toby Cooling.
